Flexible lane control

When weather, roadwork or traffic incident impacts road conditions, lane control signs can change. This reduces the risk of further incidents occurring and also allows faster access for emergency or service vehicles.

Driver tip: A flashing red cross above a lane means that drivers should leave that lane as soon as is safe to do so.

Driver tip: When the red cross stops flashing, the lane is closed to vehicles (except emergency vehicles).
